The concept of the Welcome Package was guided by the idea that the moment a donor is informed of their eligibility and invited to the society is the first, critical impression. As a result, we wanted that moment in itself to be a unique experience. With a beautiful embossed gold seal, soft-touch exterior and invisible magnetic lid, the box itself immediately presents as a unique, specialty item. Once opened, the box displays a letter from the university President formally welcoming the donor to the society on behalf of the institution along with the member lapel pins and the printed, descriptive statement of the 1789 Society. After lifting the President’s letter from the box, donors reveal additional handwritten notes from beneficiaries of the donor's philanthropy and from campus partners. These personalized notes emphasize the personal relationships that have been forged in the philanthropic process.

It includes an update on our financial goals and priorities, the performance of our endowment, and a collection of philanthropy stories that demonstrate gratitude to the donor and impact to the recipients. The report, which is mailed in December with a handwritten note from the donor’s main contact or development officer, also features a pocket to hold a personalized financial report for each donor.
